Baby crib mattresses help ensure a good night's sleep for your baby

Baby crib mattresses help support your baby's growing body.

When shopping for a crib mattress, keep in mind the cost, comfort and quality of the mattress, as your baby will probably sleep in his or her crib for about three years.

There are two types of crib mattresses that you will have to choose from, Foam and Innerspring.

Many parents choose the lightweight foam baby crib mattresses over the innerspring because it makes changing the crib linens easier. They also cost less, you can expect to spend about $75 to $100.

Some parents choose the innerspring coil mattress over foam because they will usually keep their shape longer. However, these do tend to cost more. You can expect to spend about $75 upward as high as $200.

It is really a matter of which crib mattress type you prefer.

When shopping for baby crib mattresses, keep in mind that you will want the mattress to fit snugly into the crib so make sure it's the right size, standard cribs measure 51 5/8 inches by 27 1/4 inches, some older cribs may have different measurements. A crib mattress should also not be more than six inches high. Also, make sure the mattress is firm which is best for your baby, make sure your crib mattress cover is durable and make sure your mattress can breathe, this will allow air to flow through so odors escape.
